Introducing the ZaDome Pizza Oven: How It Works
Learn how ZaDome stores heat in two heavy carbon-steel surfaces and gives you independent control over top and bottom heat.
How ZaDome Works
ZaDome uses two heavy carbon-steel surfaces to store the heat needed to bake pizza.
The carbon-steel plate inside the dome is lowered close to the burner during preheating, allowing the interior of the ZaDome to reach temperatures of 750–800°F or higher. A built-in thermometer lets you monitor the temperature.
The separate carbon-steel baking plate is heated on another burner. For many pizzas, a baking-surface temperature of around 500°F provides strong bottom heat while the hotter ZaDome provides intense heat from above.
Because the two surfaces are heated separately, you can adjust them independently. Increase the baking-plate temperature for a crisper bottom crust, or reduce it for a softer bake.
Once Both Surfaces Are Hot
- Slide the pizza onto the heated baking plate.
- Raise the internal ZaDome heat-retention plate into its cooking position.
- Place the ZaDome over the pizza.
- Turn off the burners.
The pizza then cooks entirely with heat stored in the carbon steel. At typical pizza temperatures, a pizza can bake in approximately three minutes.
